Christchurch in many ways is an amazing city. It was hit by two earthquakes that were pretty devastating in its impact. We got lost, numerous times, going through the city center. Construction changes from day to day there as the city continues its reconstruction. Damaged buildings will disappear. It is almost a comical game to ride with a group of Christchurch residents as they debate what was on that corner or what turn to take to get somewhere. There's much to be sad of, the destruction of beautiful cathedrals, for instance. And… something remarkable has happened. In open spaces there can be art work. Or a mall made out of shipping containers. There may be shipping containers holding up a facade in some places. Yet there is little graffiti. People go about their business in safety. No fear like there would be in an American city. Just a people doing there thing to rebuild their city.
