The glaciers of New Zealand are pretty amazing. Well, they look like they need a good cleaning. I think of glaciers as being nice, pristine pieces of ice, not something covered with dirt in places from rock falls. It's also quite a hike to get up close to the glaciers. Since I was in New Zealand, I kept thinking I was climbing through Mordor to Mount Doom, not to see a glacier. I think the path would have been made easier if I had furry feet, but I don't. The glacier has been melting, in some ways alarmingly so. I wonder where the glacier will be in 5 years time or 20 years time. In reality that's what kept me going, to because for all I know, in 20 years there will be no more Fox Glacier.
