I knew my camera (Powershot SX50 HS) was acting up. I bought as my travel camera since it had a tremendous zoom lens. I shot my Fiji trip with it and my back thanked me because of it. It even went on safari to Botswana with a friend. However, when I took it Canon to get cleaned and checked, they said my lens barrel rail was having a problem. After checking on it, this would be a problem that could kill the camera. I started looking into cameras. I liked the functionality of the SX50 but I wanted more. Specifically, wireless, improved focus but still being portable and having some zoom capability. What I got with some serious Black Friday Deals, is an EOS M3. The M stands for mirrorless. It takes up about the same space as the SX50 but has interchangeable lenses. With two lenses and the battery charger and electronic viewfinder, my travel kit will weigh more than the SX50 but weigh considerably less than my 7D. I lose on the magnification but gain on sensor size, optics quality, focusing… a pretty good trade off. So far, I love the touch screen and I am using this camera in new ways and taking shots from new perspectives. All in all, a solid investments given my travel schedule for next year!
