In Hokitika is a great store called The Possum People. They sell just about everything possum, the Australian marsupial that is a serious pest in New Zealand. It seems like everybody hates possum but they managed to find a use out of possum, besides as food which I will get to later-- they mix it with merino wool and make nice warm stuff, gloves, scarves, sweaters. The Possum People also had a gorgeous rug made out of possum skin.
